To develop international standards for concentrating PV modules and components, comprising any novel technology beyond crystalline silicon and thin films that requires dynamic installation. These standards will be in the general areas of safety, photoelectric performance and environmental reliability tests, universal and non-restrictive in their application, taking into account different environments and manufacturing technologies. In addition to the basic electrical and mechanical characteristics, the standards will be written for other important factors such as thermal performance, high voltage performance, fault resistance, and fault-tolerant design. WG7 meeting Next meeting (2019 fall meeting): Shanghai, China in the around of the first week of December in conjunction with PVPMC workshop. Shitao Wang will be the host. 2020 Spring meeting: Same place and same dates of the TC82 meeting. Solar trackers - Safety requirements and Wind velocity is still vital to tracker recognition, after seeing the various wind issues being experienced around the world. PNW TS 82-1549 Tracker structure design using local wind conditions (New work item proposal: 2019/01/11) A new TS gives information on how to relate local wind codes and the tracker standards in IEC. IEC 62688 Ed. 1. Concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) module and assembly safety qualification CPV specific fire test based on intensive experiments by Japanese NCs, new TS. IEC 62108 Ed. 2. Concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) modules and assemblies - Design qualification and type approval Germany prepares NP for a standard to cover CPV receivers (incl. COC + SOE). IEC60891-x Photovoltaic devices - Procedures for temperature and irradiance corrections to measured I-V characteristics Expansion to a spectrum-sensitive cell (multi-junction and CPV) and IAM sensitive cell (static CPV and car-roof PV). Open discussion is continued. IEC 62817-1 Design qualifications for Horizontal One- Axis Solar tracking system A standard to cover Design qualifications for Horizontal One-Axis Solar tracking system. Due to the successive fatal incidents in the 1-axis trackers, IEC TC82 thinks it is the highest priority issue in WG7 activity. IEC 62108 Ed. 2. Concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) modules and assemblies - Design qualification and type approval Australia considers a new NP for covering an active cooling CPV in the system level. Tracker availability China considers a new NP for covering tracker availability. Solar simulator standard (IEC 60904-9-1 ED1.) CD will be finished in weeks. The CD will be circulated for a month for confirmation. Then, it will be sent to the Secretary as the CD from WG7. Active cooling system (NP for IS) Waiting for NP from Australia. China may submit NP after discussion with Australia. CPV module fire test (NP for TS) Japan will submit NP. CPV , COC qualification (IEC62787) Response to comments from National committees that were discussed among sub-group experts (Spain, Germany, and Japan) were agreed by entire WG7. Additionally, the precise description of the inspection criteria, not relying on other IS, was requested. The final draft in the sub-group is to be made within several months. The last CD will be circulated for a month for confirmation. Then, it will be sent to the Secretary as the CD from WG7. Everything is to be before August. COC + SOE and receiver qualification (NP for IS) WG7 agrees a new IS for COC + SOE and receiver qualification is to be proposed. Germany will submit NP. Tracker safety (IEC 63104) Word-to-word correction was done. Shitao Wang calls a monthly web meeting among experts for catching up with the urgent demand for tracker safety standards. Tracker availability (NP for TS) China will propose a new NP. Tracker qualification (IEC 62817-1) Scope and other structure of the CD were discussed. The discussion continues by the web meeting every month. Tracker structure guideline (PNW TS 82-1549, TS) This gives an opportunity that the users can check the design by simple maths referring to the local wind codes. The original proposal was only CPV tracker, but it may be applied to dual-axis flat-plate trackers. VIPV and other curved PVs Many discussions on how to test curved PVs (typically VIPV and BIPV). WG7 agrees that it should be defined by testing laboratories after trying (round-robin) with the support of researchers. Japan is considering leading the round-robin project. The collimated solar simulator will be helpful. Modeling and testing are often confused. The IEC TC82 handles testing. Effective solar resource may be convenient for comparison to the standard installation, but it should be energy but power.
